Architecture Portfolio 2

Not all architecture colleges are the same when it comes to admissions requirements. Yet many require the submission of a portfolio along with the application. This helps to ensure that students are serious about art and design. Don't worry if you don't have direct experience as an architect. Instead, you can compile an impressive portfolio that highlights your individual talent and artistic ability.

1. 1. Start thinking about your architecture portfolio long before it's due. The more time that you give yourself in advance, the better. This will allow you to create several pieces so that you can later choose your best work. If you wait until the last minute, you might be stuck with work that doesn't represent who you are as an artist.
   2. Choose one or two examples of your design abilities across three or four art forms. Although architecture involves engineering and mathematic ability, the purpose of the portfolio is to demonstrate your eye for design. Photography, paintings, drawings, printmaking and building design are all appropriate for inclusion in a printed portfolio. Burn film and video projects to a DVD disc for review.
   3. Take a class in design or art if you have absolutely no artistic background. Keep in mind that architects aren't born. Rather, they become architects by learning the craft. You can use assignments you complete in class as pieces in your portfolio for architecture college.
   4. Check with the college's requirements for portfolio submission and follow the guidelines. If there are none, you can make digital scans or take pictures of work that is larger than an 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper. Each piece in the portfolio should then be presented on paper of the same size. An impressive portfolio is not just visually exciting. It is also neat.
